Located only 2 miles from the popular market town of Helmsley, this friendly plantsman's garden set in 8 acres of rolling countryside on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors is perfect for gardening enthusiasts and novices alike.

On route you pass the picturesque thatched cottages of Pockley before finding the gardens under the dramatic outline of the church bell tower. Once inside, the gardens offer stunning views over the Vale of Pickering from their elevated hillside location. At 500 feet above sea level and subject to vicious north east winds battering the garden during the winter months, gardening is not easy. However, Wytherstone gardens proves the impossible is possible with dozens of rare plants that are not meant to survive so far north flourishing.

You are encouraged to touch, smell, interact and discover the wide variety of plants on offer. Almost all are clearly labelled but there are a number of species so rare that they still have to be accurately identified. Lady Clarissa Collin or Jonathan, the head gardener, enthusiastically give impromptu presentations that offer a wonderful insight to this most unbelievable place. You can even take home plants from the on-site nursery all of which are propogated from the garden.
